Q. What can I do if my piece of clothing wears out too quickly?

A. You can return your item for repair or reinforcement in the worn out area, or order a replacement. Some jobs frequently exhibit more wear and tear in specific areas than others. When you know where the excessive strain on the fabric would be due to your daily tasks, ask an Alaska Textiles sales rep what they can do about reinforcement in the specific area for future orders, or an alternative fabric/style that might be better suited to the job.

Q. What is the return policy?

A. Currently approved items unwashed, unworn, without embroidery, can be returned within 30 days to Alaska Textiles. If the item has been discontinued or was listed as a special order, it is at the discretion of Alaska Textiles rather or not to take back.

Q. How can I get something altered or customized (reinforced crotched, added pockets, hemming, leg zips, etc)?

A. Include in the comments box the type of alteration or customization you are looking for and Alaska Textiles will contact you with what the options are. Many alterations are an easy fix but can make a large difference in fit and function. If you have already submitted the order, call or email Alaska Textiles to inform them of your request.

Q. What if I’m looking for something specific that I don’t find on the website?

A. Always contact your Alaska Textiles sales rep, we are a distributor for a large variety of brands and styles. We would be more happy to work with you to obtain the specific item/brand you are looking for or can help find an alternative.

Q. My order did not meet the need date I requested. Why does it sometimes take longer to fill an order? What is the difference between a special order and regular order?

A. Longer lead times are caused by several factors.

  • Special orders reach Alaska Textiles shipped on a barge, which can sometimes be delayed. If you are unsure how long it will take to get your order, call or email Alaska Textiles for an order status update. If your item is needed sooner, please call Alaska Textiles and see if something can be done to expedite your item.

    Q. What if I’m not sure what size I wear?

    A. Feel free to contact any of our  sales reps at Alaska Textiles in helping to choose the right size for you.

    Q. How can I check on the status of my order or let Alaska Textiles know I have a problem or change request?

    A. Contact mary@alaskatextiles.com or 907-229-0968.

    Q. When should I repair or replace my FRC and what should I look for?

    A. FRC should be inspected like all of our PPE before and after use by the user. ASTM F2757 states that the list below may diminish the effectiveness:

  • Worn out thin spots, holes, excessive wear or abrasion

  • Mechanical Damage evidence of cuts, rips, tears, open seams and non-functional closures

  • Modifications and Alteration(s) to a garment that differs significantly from the original design

  • Fit the flame, thermal, and arc resistant clothing no longer fits the wearer

  • Flammable Substances garments soiled by substances that represent a flammability risk, such as solvents, solids, oils and other petroleum products that cannot be properly removed by cleaning.
A good rule of thumb is that if the garment is beyond repair, there are open access points (via a hole or worn out fabric) to garments underneath or to exposed skin and can no longer pass any standard tests that are offered for FRC garments, it is time to replace the garment.

Standard small tears that can be repaired using similar FRC fabrics is allowable. Popped seams, etc. can also be repaired with Nomex thread.

In addition, if the garment obtains any flammable soils, it also needs to be replaced with a garment that does is not compromised.
